New Gallery to Open in Corning, NY

WHAT:
Corning’s newest gallery, Spencer Hill Gallery, plans to open its doors this summer on July 1. For its inaugural exhibition, Kathrine Page, former director of the Davison Gallery at Roberts Wesleyan College, assembles the recent work of 18 represented artists in media such as painting, ceramics, mixed media, and sculpture in a show titled, A Sense of Place.

Tracing life’s footprints often leads to new discoveries to newfound strengths and a reorientation affirming present realities. Finding a sense of place connotes newness and identity--that locus of epiphany, that place we call home. As such, A Sense of Place investigates discovery, meaning, and purpose. On display the viewer will find a cluster of sensibilities that rest at the place of remembering, forgetting, letting go, holding on, adventure, imagination, and beginning anew by exploring visual and actual textures.

At the heart of the exhibition 19 artists bring together in one place a sense of knowing their place as artists in the world, and in knowing their place we glimpse into the beauty and practice of these seasoned artists.

Participants include: David Berry, Sandra Bowden, Scot Bennett, Emanuele Cacciatore, Ralph Gabriner, Nicora Gangi, Douglas Giebel, Bruce Herman, Nancy Jurs, Larry Merrill, Lanna Pejovic, Toni Pepe, Peter Pincus, Masha Ryskin, Jillian Sokso, Shelley Thorstensen, Jo-Ann Van Reeuwyk, Sabra Wood, and Jim Zingarelli.

ABOUT:

Founded in April 2012, Spencer Hill Gallery LLC, the jewel-box gallery nestled at the crown of Spencer Hill in the Pinewood Acres neighborhood of Corning, NY, exists as a cultural center for the community, and as the visual epitome of the intrinsic relationship between the artist and the viewer by offering a rotating schedule of art exhibitions featuring mostly abstract and some representational two-dimensional paintings, ceramics, and sculpture for purchase. The gallery curates seven to nine exhibitions annually in their exhibition program examining the mediums, processes, and expressions of the 18 accomplished artists it represents.
